Torrent de Faget (Fajet): thermal canyon in Thuès-les-Bains, France

The Torrent de Faget, also spelled Fajet in numerous maps, guidebooks and canyoning route descriptions, is the famous thermal canyon of Thuès-les-Bains, located in the French Eastern Pyrenees.

It is one of the most unique canyon descents you can experience in this part of the Pyrenees. Here, traditional canyoning is combined with natural hot springs that emerge along the route and mix with the stream water.

For this reason, the thermal canyon in France at Thuès has become one of the most sought-after canyoning experiences during the colder months.

While the outside environment may be fully wintry, inside the canyon you’ll find sections where the water reaches a surprisingly pleasant temperature.

Description of the thermal canyon in Thuès-les-Bains

The Thuès Canyon is located in the Thuès-les-Bains / Thuès-Entre-Valls area, in the French department of the Eastern Pyrenees.

Besides Torrent de Faget or Fajet, you may also find this route referred to as Thuès Thermal Canyon, Canyon de Thuès, Gorges de Thuès, Cascades d’Eaux Chaudes, Thuès Hot Water Canyon or Gorges de Thuès Thermal Water Canyon.

All these names refer to the feature that has made this canyon so famous: the unique combination of a true Pyrenean gorge with natural hot water springs.

The route is not particularly long, but it offers a very complete canyoning experience.

During the descent we follow the stream, complete several rappels and discover pools and sections where the thermal springs noticeably warm the water.

In some places, the mixed water reaches temperatures close to 35°C (95°F).

The springs themselves can emerge at considerably higher temperatures, so you should never stand directly where the hot water comes out.

Torrent de Faget with children

One of the most common questions is whether the Thuès Hot Water Canyon is suitable for children.

Under the right conditions, yes.

The route can be enjoyed as a family-friendly beginner canyon and is generally suitable for children from around 8–10 years old.

Age is not the only factor we consider.

We also assess the canyon conditions, water flow, the group’s experience, the child’s confidence and their comfort in the water.

The combination of an accessible route and natural hot springs makes this canyon an excellent choice for families looking for a unique Pyrenean adventure.

Hot water canyoning in the Eastern Pyrenees

Hot water canyoning in the Eastern Pyrenees is an experience that is difficult to find anywhere else.

The setting remains unmistakably Pyrenean: mountains, rock, gorges and flowing water.

The difference comes when natural thermal springs appear along the route, creating sections where the water temperature rises noticeably.

This activity is ideal if you’re staying in Font-Romeu, the French Cerdanya or anywhere else in the Eastern Pyrenees and want to add an unforgettable adventure to your trip.

Winter canyoning in warm water

Winter canyoning in warm water is probably the main reason why this canyon has become so famous.

When temperatures drop, many traditional canyon descents become less appealing to casual adventurers.

Thuès is completely different.

You can find yourself surrounded by a true winter landscape while progressing through sections warmed by natural thermal springs.

With a wetsuit and the appropriate equipment, this contrast creates a truly unforgettable experience.

That said, don’t forget you’re still in the mountains.

Outside the water it can be cold, so warm clothing before and after the activity is essential.

Why choose the Gorges de Thuès Thermal Water Canyon?

Because it offers a completely different experience from a traditional canyon.

Here you’ll enjoy genuine canyoning, complete rappels, descend a spectacular gorge and admire incredible mountain scenery, all with one extraordinary feature: natural thermal waters.

It is especially attractive during winter and the colder months.

It can be an excellent first canyoning experience while still being unique enough to impress people who have already descended many canyons.

The Gorges de Thuès Thermal Water Canyon combines adventure, mountain landscapes and warm thermal waters in a single unforgettable day.
