The Formiga Canyon, or Formiga Canyon, is a legendary canyon and one of the top 5 classics of the Sierra de Guara. It is accessible to everyone and offers a complete canyoning experience. It has everything a great descent can offer: slides, jumps, rappels, down climbs, siphons, handrails, crystal-clear pools, and beautiful narrow corridors—so narrow that at times you can touch both walls with your hands.
The approach route is easy and very scenic, allowing us to enjoy the breathtaking landscapes of the lower Sierra de Guara. All the while, we can hear the gentle murmur of water flowing at the bottom of the Canyon.
The approach path leads us to the Cueva de Polvorosas, a natural vault that was once used to shelter livestock. Here, we put on our wetsuits, helmets, and harnesses, and begin the adventure. The descent starts with a long handrail that leads us to the beginning of the canyon.
During the adventure, we might encounter different types of animals: wild goats, Iberian ibex, peregrine falcons, and griffon vultures.
The Formiga Canyon is located 30 km from the city of Huesca, on the slopes of the Sierra de Guara, where the Formiga River meets the Yara Canyon. It lies between large rock walls inhabited by a colony of vultures.
