At MundoCanyon we offer canyoning courses in the Pyrenees for different levels of experience. You can start from scratch with the Level 1 Canyoning Course or progress towards more technical manoeuvres and more complete descent management with the Level 2 Canyoning Course.
The training takes place mainly in real canyons in the Pallars and the Lleida Pyrenees and combines technique, rope management, planning, terrain reading and decision-making.
The aim is not to memorise manoeuvres, but to understand what to do, when to do it and why, adapting the technique to the actual conditions of the canyon.
The Level 1 Canyoning Course is designed for people who want to get started with the basic techniques of canyon descent or who have already completed a few guided canyons and want to begin understanding how an activity is prepared and managed.
You do not need to know rope manoeuvres beforehand. The course starts from the fundamentals and progresses gradually.
The techniques are first explained clearly and practised in an environment where the manoeuvres can be repeated and mistakes corrected.
They are then applied in a real canyon, where the participant learns to use the equipment and techniques within the context of a complete activity.
During the descent, we also work on terrain reading, group management, communication and choosing the appropriate manoeuvre for each situation.
Level 1 provides a foundation for understanding a canyoning activity better and continuing to practise basic techniques in situations suited to your experience.
It does not mean complete independence for every canyon. Independence is built progressively through training, practice and experience.
The Level 2 Canyoning Course in the Pyrenees is aimed at people who already have experience and want to improve their manoeuvres, solve more complex situations and progress towards a more independent and informed approach to canyoning.
Previous experience in abseiling, basic rope handling, canyon progression and regular use of the equipment is recommended.
The manoeuvres are first practised separately in order to understand how they work and correct mistakes.
They are then applied during the descent of a real canyon, where other factors come into play: water flow, length of vertical sections, condition of the anchors, characteristics of the group and the need to choose an efficient solution.
The aim is for technique to stop being a memorised sequence and become a tool for solving real situations.
At Level 2, it is not enough simply to know how to perform a manoeuvre. It is also important to understand when to use it, what alternatives exist and what risks each option involves.
During the course, particular attention is paid to terrain reading and the ability to adapt a decision to the actual conditions of the canyon.
The course helps consolidate a broader technical foundation and gives you more tools to analyse situations and solve incidents in more complex canyons.
Complete independence still depends on accumulated experience, the difficulty of the canyon, the conditions and the ability to assess risks correctly.
Level 1 is the right option if you have no previous technical training, have done only a few canyons or do not yet confidently master basic abseiling and rope-handling techniques.
Level 2 is designed for those who already master these foundations and want to improve anchor management, more complex manoeuvres, rope ascent, incident management and decision-making.
If you are unsure about your level, tell us which canyons you have completed and which techniques you already know before booking.
Canyoning is not simply about descending on a rope. An outing begins much earlier: choosing a suitable canyon, checking the weather, interpreting a route description, preparing the equipment and assessing the conditions.
That is why both levels work not only on technique, but also on planning, terrain reading and decision-making.
For Level 1, no previous technical experience is required. A basic level of fitness, confidence on uneven terrain and the ability to swim are recommended.
For Level 2, previous canyoning experience and command of basic abseiling and progression techniques are required.
Tell us which canyons you have completed, which manoeuvres you already know and what you would like to learn. We will help you choose between Level 1, Level 2 or personalised training.
MundoCanyon courses are adapted to each participant’s level, previous experience and objectives. For this reason, the duration of the training, number of sessions and price are determined individually.
Before planning the course, we have a short conversation to understand your starting point: what experience you have, which techniques you already master, what you need to improve and what your objective is.
Someone starting from zero does not need the same training as someone who already practises the activity and wants to perfect specific manoeuvres. Likewise, some participants need a single focused session, while others require a more complete and progressive training process.
Based on this assessment, we define the most suitable content, duration and format and provide you with a corresponding personalised quote.

No for Level 1. Level 2 does require previous experience and command of basic abseiling and progression techniques.
Not necessarily. If you already have equivalent experience, you can access Level 2 directly. If you are unsure, we can assess your level beforehand.
Yes. The manoeuvres are practised and then applied in one or more canyons selected according to the group’s level and the conditions.
For courses carried out in aquatic canyons, it is recommended that you know how to swim and feel comfortable in the water.
At Level 2, incident-resolution manoeuvres and rope ascent can be introduced. The exact content will depend on the final programme confirmed for this level.
The courses provide a technical foundation for continued progression. Independence also depends on subsequent practice, experience, the difficulty of the canyon and the conditions.
Yes. We can organise personalised training if you already master part of the content and want to work only on certain techniques.
