If you would like to go snowshoeing in Catalonia this winter, we make it easy for you. We live in a true paradise for enjoying this winter activity.
Whether you are an experienced athlete or just starting to explore the world of mountain activities, we have plenty of options for snowshoeing routes in the Pyrenees. Whatever your level, we adapt the activity to you and your group, which is why we offer routes of different difficulty levels.
We spend most of the year in this wonderful natural environment, surrounded by mountains, valleys, rivers and steep gorges. This is the landscape of the Alt Pirineu Natural Park, where many of our favourite routes are located.
We can offer everything from a relaxing snowshoe walk to a multi-day trek, staying in different types of mountain refuges along the way.
As an additional experience, we also offer the opportunity to build snow shelters or igloos. This has become a particularly popular activity for families with children, as building these shelters takes us back in time, teaches us about traditional culture and architecture, and provides a fun experience to enjoy with family or friends.
People often ask us what snowshoeing involves. Essentially, it consists of following a route adapted to your needs and experience level, with the main difference being that you walk over the snow while enjoying spectacular winter landscapes.
Snowshoes are simply an accessory or piece of equipment that attaches to your hiking shoes or mountain boots. Their wide structure distributes your weight over a larger surface area, helping to prevent you from sinking too deeply into the snow while walking.
Our snowshoeing excursions in Lleida take place throughout the Catalan Pyrenees. We focus particularly on the Alt Pirineu Natural Park, although we also organise snowshoeing excursions in Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park.
Trekking poles are the most commonly used additional equipment, although they are not strictly necessary. As for clothing, you should wear comfortable, warm garments that are breathable and, at the same time, waterproof or water-resistant.
For footwear, mid-height hiking boots with a Gore-Tex membrane or similar waterproof properties are recommended. Hiking shoes can also be combined with gaiters. Gaiters are generally advisable, although whether they are necessary will depend on the snow conditions and depth.
Walking in the snow with snowshoes is easier than it might seem. After trying them for just a few minutes, practising a little and following the advice of your guide, you will quickly get used to the technique.
