The snowshoe route to Refugi Pla de la Font is a fantastic way to discover the winter landscapes of Pallars Sobirà. The route starts near Planes de Son and gradually climbs through forests and mountain clearings until reaching the refuge, located at an altitude of around 2,000 metres.
It is a very complete excursion for enjoying snowshoeing in the Pyrenees without having to tackle a particularly demanding high-mountain route. Along the way, we will cross snow-covered forests and open areas offering views of the mountains surrounding the Parc Nacional d’Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici.
The destination of the excursion is Refugi Pla de la Font, located in a privileged setting at the foot of Tésol de Son. In winter, the landscape surrounding the refuge changes completely, creating an excellent setting for exploring the mountains on snowshoes.
The route covers approximately 7.5 km there and back with around 480 metres of positive elevation gain. The ascent is gradual, although there are some steeper sections.

No previous snowshoeing experience is required, although participants should be used to hiking in the mountains and have a reasonable level of fitness.
The effort required can vary considerably depending on the condition and depth of the snow. The guide will adapt the route and pace to the terrain conditions and the level of the group.

As well as learning how to move correctly with snowshoes, during the excursion we will discover how the Pyrenean mountains change in winter and learn to identify and interpret some of the tracks and signs left by animals in the snow.
No. This route can be a good option for getting started with snowshoeing, provided that participants are used to walking and have an appropriate level of fitness for several hours of mountain activity.
Before starting, the guide will explain how to put on the snowshoes, use the poles correctly and move over different types of snowy terrain.
Snow conditions can change considerably from one day to another, so the actual difficulty of the excursion will also depend on the condition of the terrain.
You will need waterproof hiking boots, warm clothing suitable for winter conditions, gloves, a hat, sunglasses, sun protection, water and some food.
We recommend dressing in layers so that you can adapt your clothing to the temperature and level of physical effort during the activity.
It is also advisable to carry a small backpack with an additional warm layer, water and food for the route.
The snowshoeing season depends directly on the presence and condition of the snow. These activities are usually possible during the winter months and, when conditions allow, also in early spring.
The route is always subject to weather conditions, access conditions and the state of the snowpack.
