Barbuxell Cave (Avenc del Barbuxell)

The Barbuxell Cave, known in Catalan as Avenc del Barbuxell, is located near Serradell, in Pallars Jussà, an especially interesting area for caving thanks to its conglomerate rock formations and numerous underground cavities.

Unlike an introductory visit to a mainly horizontal cave, Barbuxell offers a more complete and technical caving experience. The activity takes you underground for several hours, progressing through the cave and discovering up close the formations created in the rock by water and the passage of time.

This activity is designed for those who want to take their caving experience a step further and enjoy a real underground adventure. The route involves moving through a natural subterranean environment, negotiating different passages and following the guide’s instructions at all times.

The activity is led by a qualified guide specialising in caving, who assesses the conditions, guides the group through the cave and manages the techniques and equipment required throughout the route.

These times are approximate. The final duration will depend on the experience and number of participants, the group’s pace and the conditions inside the cave. Additional time should also be allowed for the initial briefing, preparation and fitting of the technical equipment.

In total, we recommend allowing around 4 h 30 min – 5 hours to complete the activity comfortably.

The activity gives you the opportunity to discover an underground environment completely different from the landscape above ground and experience a more adventurous form of caving.

During the route, we will encounter:

Progression through a natural underground cave.
Passages of different shapes and sizes.
Rock formations created by the action of water over time.
Narrow passages and more spacious sections.
A completely dark environment, far from the outside world.
Several hours of underground exploration.

The temperature inside the cave remains cool even in summer, so it is important to wear suitable clothing for the activity.

You must bring sports shoes with good grip or trekking boots and comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely. We also recommend bringing lightweight work gloves and spare clothes and footwear to leave in the car.
